What does your board game motivation look like?

Gameplay

I enjoyed taking the Quantic Foundry's Board Game Motivation Profile.  My results look like this:

Which is somewhat telling of me as a person, I enjoy strategy, aesthetics, discovery and immersion more than conflict and social interaction.  Yes, I'm a bit of an introvert who sacrifices that part of myself for the fun of board gaming, although I really am not attracted by solo play.

The game recommendations seem to be pretty good as well, based on my profile.  I've tried a few which have been hits or misses, but it's interesting to get to know myself better and what motivates me with regard to gaming.

What does your profile look like?  Does it reflect your personality?  Do the game recommendations seem accurate to you?

You must be great to have in game groups!

Haha I hope so, wouldn't want to be a bumer. Always up to try a game no matter the pain involved before hand.

That's always a great attitude to have! Would love to play some games with you sometime just to test that theory lol

Oh wow, you are SO balanced.  What are a couple of your favorite games, or do you like everything?  ;-)

Honestly I'm pretty big on most of my games, I don't really dislike things too much cause I know balancing is not easy. Big ones for me are; #Dune #Root #Agricola (Revised Edition)

So, apparently we like beautiful fighting games, haha.

Interesting, it's like we each have our own unique board gaming fingerprint :-)  Wonder if people with similar profiles would actually enjoy gaming together?  I guess that's the theory...

Interesting. What are some examples of games that fall into this category I wonder?

would you consider#Guild Master one? Maybe#Cosmic Frog too?

We enjoy games with plenty of interaction and conflict that also look good.  Some of our current favorites in that bucket are #Unmatched: Battle of Legends, Volume One, #Skulk Hollow, #Inis, #Imperial Settlers, #Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia #Dale of Merchants.  We are waiting to pick up#Root with the militants expansion, and I am conaidering picking up #BattleCON: War of Indines.

edited to add (because my wife reminded me):#Evolution: Climate and #Oceans

Only one of those I've played and that's#Imperial Settlers. I don't think it looked particularly good though to be honest. We ended up getting rid of it so if that's any indication we won't like the others despite what tells me about#Dale of Merchants lol

Everyone has different tastes, and that's ok :) my wife loves the imperial settlers cartooney  artwork, which helps draw her into the game.  Initially we looked at this and #51st State: Master Set and she did not like that artwork at all.

They're pretty much the same game mechanically right? My fiancée wasn't into Imperial Settlers as much as I had hoped based on how much she liked Wingspan. I think for her it was too much to track and she just didn't have fun with it thematically

Lol to be fair I haven't played DoM yet. But I bought it because you can mix and match to get as much or little interaction as you want, and different types of interactions!

Okay fine, you are forgiven for now. I'd love to get your thoughts on it once you've played!

I'll definitely make a post!

My guesses:

Sakura arms, gun and gun, exceed (especially street fighter edition), knockdown, twisted fables, BattleCon, street masters....these come to mind for me when he said "beautiful fighting games"

I suppose guild master and cosmic frog would count. "Conflict, immersion, aesthetics" is pretty broad. Cosmic Encounter might count. Wasteland express delivery service. Gloom of Kilforth (the players have conflict with the enemies?), Ghost stories.

It is kind of broad but those are some solid choices. Totally forgot about Sakura Arms. Did you take the quiz yet? Would love to see what you get!
