What needs a second play

Supporter

We talk a lot about our favorite games or ones on our shelf of opportunity (or shame). But what are the games in your collection that you have played once but NEED to play again... whether it was because you weren't so sure if you liked it on the first play or you loved it and haven't gotten it back to the table?

Mundus Novus is another one I'd like to play soon. It's not on anyone's radar in my family so we always choose something else, but it's a good one.

Hmm I can't find that one, even on BGG. Is there an alternate name?

Oops. I edited my post. Sorry for the misspelling.

#Mundus Novus. Looks like an interesting game!

Supporter15 months ago

ah! Got it

Supporter15 months ago

I don't think I've heard of that one. Who designed it?

Bruno Cathala and Serge Laget

Wow. Some good design credentials there

So far I've only gotten in one 2-player session of #Imperial Settlers: Empires of the North. I played another time solo, but I really want to play again with my wife!

Supporter15 months ago

Nice! How did she like it?

Premium User15 months ago

I think she enjoyed it, but maybe didn't love it. Though she wasn't exactly in a mood to play games, so maybe next time she'll be more into it.

Supporter15 months ago

You gotta be in the mood sometimes. My wife usually needs to play a game at least 2 sometimes 3 times before she decides if she likes it or not

Premium User15 months ago

Yep. I'm almost always in the mood for a game, but it's more my thing that she does with me, so she's not always up for it. She loves me and plays them with me often anyway, though. lol

Supporter15 months ago

Same here. My wife enjoys them but not to the extent I do

I would love to bust out #Frankendie again with a younger crowd to see how it parties. I played it with a few adults, and we thought it was easy + a little dull. It may be a lot more fun with some 8-80 players mixed in for silliness. Often, silliness makes easy games suddenly way more fun.

Huh.... I haven't heard of that will. Will have to look it up

It was a Kickstarter game some years ago from UniForge. It's got cute art.

Nice!

#Tiny Epic Tactics - Featuring a 3D Environment: I haven't had the chance to play multiplayer yet, and only once solo.  But I love the way the game works.

I'm sad I missed out on this kickstarter

There's a few I need to get back to the table.  #Viticulture and #Euphoria: Ignorance Is Bliss both need to get more time.  Also I'd like to try #Imperial as I own it but haven't gotten it to the table yet.

Supporter15 months ago

Viticulture is the same one I picked. Imperial is the Grant Rodiek card game right?

#Imperial is an older Rio Grande game.   You all play bankers during the Age of Imperialism and while you may finance a countries wars on turn 1 you may divest your interest and start funding a different country in turn 2.  Very different take on the "DOAM" (Dudes on a Map) genre.

That sounds really cool actually! I'm going to look into that one

Trent and I co-own #Pax Pamir (Second Edition). For months, it sat in the shelves with a single play that didn't go quite well because it was a very different game for us and there was one rule-mishap that affected the gameplay a bit. But still, I could tell that it wasn't a type of game that fit in well for our typical group.

But considering all of the love it gets, I think it needs a second play by me just for trying out the solo variant that others have mentioned. I borrowed it from Trent the other day so I just need to read up on the rules.

Another one that really needs to get out again is #Camel Up (second edition)! It's a fun game that my family really should play at least once every two months haha

Supporter15 months ago

Ricky Royal did a playthrough of it....

https://youtu.be/9hHAMQmz62g this is the first video of the playthrough... And, he happens to be the designer of the solo mode.

Supporter15 months ago

I'm going to check that out too!

Supporter15 months ago

Great

Supporter15 months ago

Oh Pax Pamir does look really interesting but missing a semi-important rule could really tank a game like that.

Camel Up (first edition) was one of the ones that my group played just once also. I ended up selling it after second edition came out. I'll probably try to get the second edition at some point.

My collection is carefully purchased so there aren't many games that I don't want to play again right now. That's not possible of course. So, what do I want to play the most? Madeira. It's a great game, but I can't get it to the table much.
