Great review! I've been curious about how this plays since @BenjaminK mentioned about it several times :D
As for drawing those monsters(?) on your opponent's paper, does it feel like it could be too "mean" for some players? How do you Joanne will like the game?

It potentially could be but I think that since it's a universal and balanced attack it should be better.

I have been looking for a new roll and write. Cartographers could be it. Right now, I have two that I think are my favorites. The newest is #Silver & Gold. So simple, easy to teach and fun. My all time favorite was ahead of its time and that is #Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age. I've ran out of scoresheets on that one.

I don't have a ton of experience with both but I enjoyed Cartographers a lot more. I'm a sucker for the fantasy theme so I have some bias.
I could see owning both as Welcome To is more straightforward and quicker while Cartographers has a bigger decision space. If you are a roll and write fan I think they fit slightly different niches.

I think the only way you'll be able to make a fair comparison is to have a marathon and play all the sheets in cartographers! haha!
I don't own a roll and write but these two are the two on the top of my list to try/get

Cartographers is the best roll/flip and write I have played to date. With that said I agree that there is room in a collection for both and they both scratch a different itch in terms of strategy and gameplay.

I have #Cartographers: A Roll Player Tale and started an Facebook game of #Welcome to... with friends. So far I'm only one turn into #Welcome to... Cartographers was the first flip and write game I have purchased but it hits a nice niche when I'm in a particular game mood. I think it has a bit more "open-world" feel than Welcome To... which I like.

I think the only way to know if Cartographers is better is by playing it for 24 hours straight :)
Dang it! you beat me to the comment!
