How do Kickstarter pledge managers work?

Crowdfunding

The Paladins of the West Kingdom Kickstarter starts next week. While I don't think I'll be backing the game (I have too many games I can buy and play now that I want to get) I see that there's many different tiers you can get in on including a $1 tier usually. This level usually gives you access to a pledge manager.

In my Google searches I see that this is something that you use to manage your order, amount of money to donate or to buy other things. It's that last part that interests me. I've been getting into Garphill's games a lot lately and I'd like to get some of the promo stuff for the North Sea games and Architects. I hear from Shem that these things are going to be a part of the Paladins Kickstarter. Is my understanding correct that if I pay the $1 I can get access to the pledge manager and then just buy the promos/accessories I want?

Are there any other ways that these pledge managers work?

It all depends on the publisher, the pledge manager they use, and what they want to offer. To the publisher, it's just a small ecommerce tool to use after the campaign is over. I think a lot of Kickstarted games generally do have all products available in the pledge manager that weren't strictly only available during the kickstarter timeline.

That would be nice. If I could get some of the promos and whatnot that aren't easily available otherwise, that would be a bonus. I supposed I'd get in on the development updates so that would be interesting to follow a designer that I really like.

I have backed sequels of projects (for $1) just to get stuff from the first projects bits and accessories. I have never had a bad experience
