Feedback Friday! (2020-05-15)
For those who are new, this is a weekly post where you can share your praises/complaints/wish features for our forum, game pages, content, etc. You can also find more information in this article where I walk through the various features on BGA.
- How's your overall experience using BGA? How do you feel about our forum system, game pages, etc? Does it especially lack in a certain area?
- Do you experience a lot of lag or any crashes?
- Are there certain procedures that give you a lot of trouble that need refinement?
- I personally use BGA at 80% zoomed view because the font size at 100% zoom is way too big for my tastes. Is this just me?
Basically, give all your complaints so that we can make it better! :D
Thanks everyone.

How would you imaging the game being featured more prominently would look?
theDL 8 months ago
Please excuse my MS Paint work, but maybe something like this? This is just an idea, of course, but it shows that this is an expansion pretty clearly, and it's very obvious which game it expands. I feel like it's a pretty important piece of information to highlight for expansions, and having it be easy to navigate straight to the base game is important as well. In the current format, this info is easy to miss (IMHO).

I do like the direction of this. I'll add this feature to my backlog to work on soon.

Haha, whoops. But yeah nice. I love that game. It is fun on TTS but better in real life. Played online again last night, finished second again. I had to play the Marquise, man they are limited, and not really that fun. I wanted to play the Riverfolk but when I got to the table it ended up only being three players and the Eyrie and WA were already selected. Not a great mix for the Riverfolk. I probably should have gone Duchy.

Duchy looks fun, I think you mentioned before they're closer to the Marquise in terms of the level of map presence?
By the way, I tried a game against a bot last night and it was really fun! I also realized that the official #Root: The Clockwork Expansion board for the Mechanical Marquise has a slight change where the "Expand" action is under evening phase, whereas the current file on #Root's game page seems to be a slightly older version that had Expand under the Daylight phase, which meant that you wouldn't run into it if you drew a bird order card and went into the "Escalated Daylight" phase.

Ahh, maybe I'll look into and create my own errata.
Yeah, the Duchy are a bigger faction so they can take the place of the Marquise. They aren't spread out as much at first but have that possibility. I just like the option of being able to play without the Marquise because I don't find them to be very fun or complex.
How did you fare against the bot?

The ones I was looking at are from here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iq4rp6pwdntvh1c/AAC6S2-lj_KLclFb4MaxCUXWa?dl=0
Nice, I'd love to try them out at some point! (maybe next year? haha) As for my solo game, man, it's tough! I played on the normal level and won 30-24. If the bot hadn't taken out one of my birds, that would have caused me to go in turmoil for not being able to recruit, but the right order card happened to turn up to trigger them to attack before my turn. I could see it being very difficult at the higher levels (I didn't give them any special traits either). It was fun and easy to run once I understood the rules (although that part took a while, because I got confused with the nuanced rules and with the differences between the version I was going with and the clockwork board). It'd be great to get it to a point where I can run two bots and finish under 1.5 hours. And as much as I like puzzly experiences, I like that Root's very different from my solo experiences with Clans and Architects.

I've noticed that sometimes, when I try to link out to game via '#', it doesn't actually turn up any results. For example '#Esca' should start showing suggestion for Escape: The Curse of the Temple

Yes, the tag feature still needs to be revisited! It doesn't handle titles with more than one word either so it's tough to find some games when their key word is widely used

Apparently it was the "recommended" setting on my laptop that was the culprit. The font size at 80% on my laptop was the same as Trent's 100% lol
I get frustrated with the crashes that happen every now and then too. Hope we can address this soon!

Apparently the recommended screen settings on my laptop was the culprit of the huge font size hahaha
Edit: As for the comment section of the article, I was wondering about that too since it doesn't have the usual white background.

I don't see a way to delete a price alert. There's only the option to inactivate it. Is that right?
trentellingsen Owner8 months ago
If you go hover over your username and go to the "Alerts" page. There's a little trash icon next to the inactivate area if you want to delete them.

Ok, So I have noticed that sometimes when I log a play it shows up a wierd time. Like is almost looks like it puts at previous midnight. For instance, last week I logged a play of #Forbidden Island and I noticed that it immediately showed up as being played 15 or 20 hours previously.
trentellingsen Owner8 months ago
I like the font size probably because my monitor is about 4 feet away from my eyes since I lean back while I use the computer and seeing it at 80% makes me want to lean forward to read stuff and it feels uncomfortable, haha.
philryuh Owner8 months ago
4ft away?? My terrible eyesight can't handle that lol
But yeah, I want to see where everyone else is at too. I use it at 80% all the time on my laptop and that's the normal for me so 100% looks so awkward. In the end, if everyone is fine with the current look, I can stay at 80% and still be happy with it.

Something I'd love to see improved in the game pages is showing relationships between games. For example, when games integrate with each other, you can't really find that info. An example of this would be the Century Trilogy. It'd be cool to have a separate that lists all of the games/expansions that can integrate with each other, or are part of one game "family."
On a similar note, it would also be nice if, on the page for an expansion, the base game that it expands was featured a little more prominently.
Edit: I can clarify further if this was unclear.
