User of the Week - Need Feedback!

Owner

While talking with , we thought it would be fun to randomly select a user every week for me to reach out and ask if they'd be interested in an AMA. In addition to opening themselves to questions from users, they would also need to answer a default set of questions for us to get to know their gaming background.

With that said,

  1. What do you think about this idea?
  2. What are some questions we should have them answer by default? Some questions I like to ask for my typical "let's welcome new users" posts are (1) how did you find out about Board Game Atlas, (2) how long have you been in the hobby, and (3) what are your top 3 games at the moment

What...is your quest?

What...is your favorite color?

What game (or games) would you say defines you as a board gamer?

I love this idea!

If they get it wrong are they jettisoned into the void?

This sounds like so much fun!  I'd really enjoy getting to know more about people I've met here.

Some question ideas are: 1. Where about do you live (i.e. country, or state in their country- incase some might not be comfortable getting too specific)? 2. Do you have a favorite type of game/game mechanic?

I think it's a good idea. I would suggest reaching out to the user behind the scenes first in case they aren't in to it. (Note: Not me, I'm happy to blab on all day.)

Correct. I do think that they would need to be contacted privately first.

Yup, that's the plan! :D (and if everyone says no, I'll always default to you R0land lol)

Perfect.

Sure!  Although it might get a little boring... :)

I like the idea.  Some questions I might consider...

1. When you play games, do you find yourself existentially inside the game and taking on a role or outside the game like a deity?

2. Which do you prefer, 1 six-sided die or 2 three-sided die.

3. If you could turn your family into boardgame meeples, what game would they be in?

4. If your house were burning down and you could only get one boardgame out unscathed, which one would it be?

5. A witch curses you to forever live inside a boardgame for eternity...which one do you choose?

My answers: deity, three-sided, Everdell, Anachrony, Stroganov

I love the idea of User of the week and I love these questions...

Although one needs to think, would it really be a curse to live your days inside a board game? 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

Wouldn't two 3-sided dice always be better, since the minimum you could roll would be 2?

But the odds of getting a 6 are lower (1/9 Vs 1/6). Although the average roll is better on 2d3 (4 Vs 3.5), although a d3 would be a very interestingly shaped die.

Premium User6 months ago

That's true. And I think I've seen a d3 before. It's basically a triangular cylinder (if that makes any sense) where the ends are rounded so it can't land on them.

Ah, that makes sense. I was thinking it would be a kind of distorted sphere.

Premium User6 months ago

That sounds like it could work too. There are probably a few ways you could do it.

Premium User6 months ago

Even better than that would be 3 two- sided runes...I change my answer!

Haha, why not go all the way: 6 one-sided dice?!

I love this idea! Here are some quick ideas, may think of more:

  • What was the last game you played?
  • What is a game you're hoping or planning to play soon?
  • Last 5, top 5 (might be less interesting if you're going to do these posts regularly)
  • Non-boardgaming hobbies/interests
  • Do you have a favorite FLGS? - could be cool if people just want to plug their FLGS or something like that
  • "Desert Island" games - not sure if this is much different than "favorite" games
  • A favorite gaming memory or story

Supporter6 months ago

I really like the idea of asking about your favorite memory or story, especially since I love a game that tells a great story.

Agreed, I love the bizarre and hilarious situations that happen in games!
