Game Recommendations

I thought a thread on recommending games could be fun. I've got a few games on my wishlist I could get next but I'm not sure. I'm thinking about

  • Scythe
  • Viticulture
  • Welcome To...

Any recommendation on what to get first or maybe a good worker placement game you'd recommend?

Oh, also, didn’t see your asking about a worker placement game - The Gallerist would be my recommendation there!

What do you like about The Gallerist?

Edit: I should preface all of this with a disclaimer: this is not a light game. It’s probably Vital’s lightest (or, at the very least, most streamlined), but it is still a fairly heavy game

In no particular order:

  • Designed by Vital Lacerda - seriously, this dude is a genius
  • Like most (all?) of his games, the complexity stems not from singularly complex mechanisms, but from the way each of those mechanisms interacts with the others. For example, in The Gallerist, your turn consists of placing a single worker, and doing an action...but the implications of that action are vast; causing each decision made to be vitally important
  • There is a mechanism whereby you can gain extra actions by leaving an ‘assistant’ at the action space you just left - when an opponent then takes that action, you get to do a ‘kicked out’ action. Which leads to a lot of interesting decisions of when to take certain actions and so on
  • Also, Ian O’Toole’s art/graphic design are amazing!
  • The theme is very unique as well

I highly recommend watching this video by Heavy Cardboard if you’re at all interested in it - The Gallerist 3 Player Teach and Playthrough

Also, if you haven't played it - Agricola is still, in my opinion, the de facto worker placement game. It's still fantastic after all these years!

I haven’t played Welcome To..., but you can’t lose with either Viticulture, or Scythe. They’re both amazing games!

I've not had a chance to play any of these yet but I'll be checking out everything in this post.

Those are both great games. I wouldn't consider Scythe a worker placement game, but it is awesome.

Others you may consider:
