Suggest A Game for My BGG Secret Santa Target!
So BGG's Secret Santa Exchange opened up today. My target is proving to be a tricky one. He has over 350 owned games and claims to like games with worker placement, variable player powers, and development growth. Now I coouuulld just grab stuff off his wishlist (and I plan to do that as that's what the exchange requires lol) but I was hoping to pick him up something that might not be on his radar too. Since you all like #Root so much, I figure you'll all suggest that LOL. Anyways, does anyone have any good ideas what games might fit all of these mechanisms? I'd obviously have to cross reference that he doesn't already own it but it's worth a shot.
Side note, if you are my target and are one of the many new users on BGA, I guess it's time you found out Santa isn't real.. ahahaha

Never head of that one but by the looks of it, it might just work with what I was going for! Thanks!!
Maybe #Maracaibo? Or a Lacerda game like #Vinhos? I honestly would just go with something off their wishlist.

I of course have to get something from his wishlist that's part of the rules of the exchange. Just trying to be extra Santa like with some sneaky gifts he's not expecting too :)

#Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island or #Cooper Island would be worth looking at.Â

He's at least responding to my taunting messages now so all is well. Think I'm gonna go with #Architects of the West Kingdom for one of his gifts at least

I enjoy finding games for people. A few suggestions that haven't been mentioned yet #Atlantis Rising (second edition) , #Coloma , #Tidal Blades: Heroes of the Reef . Bit of variety there that all pretty much fit your secret santa's wants.Â
Also #Whistle Mountain is one that should be out very soon and that he may enjoy. Good luck being a great Santa!

Same! Getting other people gifts is for sure the most rewarding part in all of this. I appreciate the effort to mention some different games. I just heard back from him today and he's going to update his wishlist for me because he said he has even more games now 😩

#Architects of the West Kingdom seems too easy and he likely has that one. #Everdell would work if you get the #Everdell: Legends to go with it as there are some variable player options. #Trismegistus: The Ultimate Formula could be a sneaker that doesn't have worker placement but does have the other mechanics.
If you are aiming big then #Anachrony is all over all of those "wishes" if s/he doesn't have it already. Midrange and slightly off the mark games might be #Maracaibo or #PARKS. On the lower end (Actually PARKS migth fall there) something like #Tiny Epic Dinosaurs could function although it seems a bit too small.
#Raiders of Scythia could be a nice left field option.

Wow thanks for all the excellent suggestions! The weird thing is..he has exactly 0 of these in his collection. I'm waiting for him to get back to me about his game group. Maybe someone he plays with owns other games they like to play. I've ultimately got to grab something from his wishlist but none of it seemed to fit with what he claimed to like. It's all very strange if you ask me but whatever! Just trying to be the best Santa I can be and deliver him some good games!

hard to buy something for someone with 350 games and a love for particular genres :)
In that case i would have gone with the wishlist but BGG -is- a boardgame site (I've heard ;))
#Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game does wel in checking some boxes

Yeah it's a challenge. I just wanted to try and get a game he might not be thinking of. I have to go off his wishlist for sure as part of the rules for the exchange. But two games is better than getting just one! Thanks for the suggestions!

Maybe #Dune: Imperium?
It has assymetric player powers and it has worker placement. I am not sure that it really has character growth. Maybe the deck building will feel like a certain amount of character growth..... But I am not sure.

Barrage ticks at least two of their criteria. Worker Placement and Variable player powers. Not super variable but it changes your game enough!

That definitely would check those two boxes! I messaged him to make sure of a couple things before I totally decide to go off the list. He claims to have a game group that meets weekly. I'm sure with that many games he's likely the provider of what they play. But if I'm wrong and other people bring games too, this all might be for nothing..

I should also point out the reason I'm asking for help in the first place..his wishlist is um..interesting. It doesn't seem to go with what he says are his mechanisms of choice.

The one "must have" game he has listed is #Clank! Legacy: Acquisitions Incorporated. The next tier, "Love to Have" has just #Orleans: Stories and #Letter Jam. Also weird I've noticed since getting all these excellent suggestions he doesn't seem to own any of them. You'd think he would...shrug

Ya from what I can tell those games do not really fit into their preferences! weird!

I'm guessing he has all the highly rated worker placements like #Scythe, #Architects of the West Kingdom and others. Are you wanting to get him another worker placement but under the radar? If not, you could try getting him #Call to Adventure. It's about crafting your own adventure and legacy and stuff. This game has the best art I've seen personally
