So my FLGS will allow me to place a hold on #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) if I pay up front 58.99. Do I put it on hold?

So I decided to preorder it and I'm really excited! Especially after watching both Quackalope videos.

I'm curious if you think the learning curve as far as just starting the game would be as steep in a multiplayer game. I just started watching Rahdo's Runthrough and the fact that you only have 2 actions per turn seems like learning as you go wouldn't be too too bad.
The core rules are simple, but it just comes with lots of little rules that are easy to forget. It's similar to Root in that sense except that there's more to internalize (then again, you don't have to worry about asymmetric powers.) The player aide comes in handy though and there may be better ones put together by someone on BGG. For me, I felt like I'd have most of the rules down if I got in a second solo session, but I could easily see myself forgetting those rules if I don't play again for more than a month.
As for learning curve, I think the toughest part is that the overall gameplay is nebulous for gamers who haven't explored this genre. It's not a typical game where you are presented with common character archetypes with clear consequences behind your decisions (whether good or bad.) You're playing as more of a middle man feeling out the tide of conflict and figuring out when to jump ship vs. maximizing the benefits of your loyalty, and that's very different from other games out there.
With that said, I'd be surprised if you didn't love this game. And it plays solo really well (in my opinion).
Awesome! Thanks for the insight. I'm going to watch a few more videos before I 100% jump into doing the pre-order situation.
I agree with you, by the sounds of it, I think I'd really enjoy it. I am totally intrigued by the middle man, almost not being the main force in the game.
Plus, I feel like paying $60 for it will be a steal that I won't be able to pass up.
$60? Wow your store is just too good!
These two are a great fit.....LOL
