Phil introduced to me and taught me Clans of Caledonia with the intention of us making a review video for it. We ended up getting a bit off topic though. Wha......

I enjoyed this! It sounds like me and my group talking about games lol, we always have a post game talk about games we looking forward to and games we have played and such. Fun to see y'all having fun together!

Thanks Neal! Yeah, it's been a nice change of pace. I get to squeeze in at least one gaming session a week now haha. Will be trying to introduce one game a week to Trent and I have plenty in the backlog:

All of those sound awesome! Just get some raw uncut responses and reactions to a game right afterwards! I could be about that, maybe do a quick highlight real of playing the game and the outcome!

I'm very interested in the #Concordia video! I'm pretty sure my fiance picked it up to gift me for our anniversary next month. Although I suppose I'm not supposed to know that...lol

I'm glad you like it. It's a new format I think is more entertaining to watch.

Are y'all planning on doing more videos this way? I think it's a nice change of pace!

This was a fun video.  Definitely do more like it.

Also, super jealous listening to those metal coins clinking around.

we definitely have some extremely similiar tastes.  I don't have #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) yet, but I have a feeling it'll be vying with #Root for the top spot in my collection.

I love the way you describe #Clans of Caledonia.  It also fits with drinking a Scotch while playing.  It's like being home in a sense.

I know right?? They're great :)

I'm thinking we could possibly do a comparison video between Pax Pamir 2E and Root. Very different games, but that common thread is there because of Cole. I just need to take some time to figure out how I can best teach the rules to Trent haha

I can see where Trent was coming from because Clans is not an "exciting" game and it's not one that I'd want to play multiple sessions in a row or with little gap time. But for me and my wife, I think it works because we don't play as frequently together and playing once every 3-4 weeks is just right for us to have fun playing every time (and with little pressure).

That would be a fun versus discussion.  Compare and contrast.

I could totally see myself sitting down and playing #Root multiple times in a week or even a night.  But I agree, #Clans of Caledonia is really fun, and it's got a comfort that makes it a great game to get out every once in a while but not one I'd play over and over again in a row without something to break up the plays.

Lol poor being tortured on camera!

Supporter20 days ago

Right? I'm not like Trent. I can't make important life decisions on the spot like he can lol

Supporter20 days ago

Call the police!

Like the important life decision to take that call from his wife? Haha

Supporter20 days ago

Lol. He was very good at ignoring that call!

I really enjoyed this video.

Pretty cool almost behind the scenes type video. I like it!

I like the casual vibe of this video. The conversational nature was refreshing. Not to say that I don't enjoy more structured videos, but there aren't a ton of videos like this.

Great video and fun!  I'd love to hear about thoughts on clans still but glad to hear it's among the top games for .  I would say, your top five were a wide array of choices.  I found that interesting. top 5 were similar to my own with two Stonemaier games if I remember correctly.

The unscripted banter was great.  I realize it's hard to capture moments like these but it would be fun to see more :)

Fun video.

My top five right now is:

  1. #7 Wonders especially with #7 Wonders: Leaders
  2. #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar
  3. #Trajan
  4. #Too Many Bones
  5. #Scythe

It is hard though. There are SO MANY great games.

Right?! SO MANY games. Someone had recommended I try #Trajan because of how much I like Castles of Burgundy. What other Feld games have you played and what makes Trajan stand out as one of your favorites?

Supporter13 days ago

I've played a few of his games including COB, COB the card game, Bruges, Aquasphere and Luna.

I like Trajan the best mostly because of the mancala action selection. I love it as a minigame and as an action selection mechanic. You can't always do exactly what you want, but if you manage it correctly, you can line up your turns in interesting ways. It is also useful for pushing or slowing game length.

I also find it a bit more thematic. It is a point salad game, but trading, exploring and voting all have a very different feel. The unknown requirements at the end of each round is interesting as well.

Such a great game.

Thanks for the reply! From what I've seen, I do like the mancala aspect of Trajan, but I think the board seemed a bit too busy for me almost? Definitely would be a try before I buy type game for me.

Do you have any experience with any other games with mancala mechanisms? I'm picking up#Crusaders: Thy Will Be Done in a trade pretty much just for that aspect haha

Supporter11 days ago

I don't. Well other than Mancala itself. :)

Am I the only one here who has trouble deciding my top 5 on the spot? lol

Supporter18 days ago

I do have some trouble, but not as much as you seemed to. I did enjoy the brief moments of ap quite a bit.

I think I have my top 5 pretty squared away at the moment (see my profile description), but if I hadn't written that down relatively recently, I'm sure that would be much more difficult. And I'm sure that a few months down the road it'll be much tougher.

Supporter19 days ago

I think I could do my top 5 as a group pretty easily, but putting them into actual numbers 2 - 5 would be harder (right now #Root is still sitting pretty at #1).  However, once I get #Dune, #Pax Pamir (Second Edition), and #Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile to the table I have a feeling things are going to get a lot messier trying to figure out my top 5, and even my top 1.

Dang those are some heavy hitters waiting to get played!

Agreed! My top spot is the only thing I know. After that it's a mix between 5-6 games. Coming up with it on the spot might be just a bit difficult
