What are you looking forward to?

Since I am not buying games this year I am subject to the whims of my family and the generosity of friends

(or the luck of winning a game).

That being said I am still looking forward to some games.  #Gùgōng was offered in a trade for #Ecos: First Continent as ECOS was not getting played at our house and Gugong looks like a fun game.  Hopefully, after I get through playing #housechores the game, I'll be able to try out Gugong.

#Aqua Garden is looking like it's getting close and will hopefully arrive around July.  I backed it last December as it was compared to #Heaven & Ale which is one of my favorite games.  I think Aqua Garden has a pleasant look to it like #Wingspan that my family will enjoy and I am hoping that mid-summer when folks start getting bored, it will be a nice game to add.

#Frosthaven will hopefully be delivered to my friend's house by October and I am greatly looking forward to playing.  We have a third buddy playing #Gloomhaven and I think we will wrap up #Gloomhaven: Forgotten Circles Expansion by then.

#Stroganov was recently purchased for me by my lovely wife who told me she'd pre-purchased it after I saved us some $ by installing a microwave myself.  I was quite surprised as buying games is not something she normally does (usually it's the other way!) but it is a beautiful-looking game and I look forward to playing it very much.

If I find a trade partner for #Ethnos and #Founders of Gloomhaven and #Lewis & Clark: The Expedition I might have some other options before the year's end.

WHat are you looking forward to most this year?

#Gùgōng is really fun, you'll have a great time with it!

I have no real plans to buy any more games but I do have the kickstarter for #The Defence of Procyon III due to arrive sometime this spring (or summer if it gets delayed) which I am really looking forward to. Hopefully by then the lockdown will have lifted and it'll be safe to play with folks in person!

I also just have a bunch of games that I can't wait to actually get to the table with multiple people: #Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition, #Catacombs (Third Edition), #878 Vikings: Invasions of England, #Cry Havoc (which arrived the day before the lockdown hit), #No Honor Among Thieves. All of which will benefit from having more than two people. So I am greatly looking forward to all of those.

I have recently gotten in to a historical game/wargame kick so there is no moritorium on buying games here.  (Although I do try to pace myself.)

I recently played #Cuba Libre which someone in my gaming group owns and loved it so I grabbed #Andean Abyss which should be coming soon.  Looking forward to that!

I finished a 5 turn playthrough of #Pericles: The Peloponnesian Wars yesterday and I am really looking forward to playing it again.  What a great game!

I got in to the P500 for #China's War: 1937-41 which is another COIN game that has made their cut.  I am not sure how long P500's take so I will look forward to it later this year I am guessing?

I also P500'ed for #Vijayanagara: The Deccan Empires of Medieval India, 1290-1398 which is a new style of game described as "Irregular Conflict".  It's a new style that sort of has COIN elements but allows for more breaking of the mold.  Also looking forward to this one!  It hasn't made the cut yet so who knows when it will come.

For the rest of the year I am looking forward to buying/trading/enjoying more games in this area of gaming.

I am definitely trying to limit my games purchases this year, mostly due to space and so my wife does not make me feel guilty lol. BUT I have a couple things on my radar.

I mentioned this in my comment to Phil but John Company is definitely on the radar. It is likely I will buy it but not sure I will go all in like I did with Pax (ie. no metal coins).

I am also really looking forward to playing #Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion with my wife. It has been a long time coming but I think she will really enjoy it, life has just been busy!

I also am really digging #Marvel Champions: The Card Game, I have Hulk coming my way and I pre-ordered Venom too. I am going to try and get Melanie interested in this one too and hopefully go through the new Guardians Campaign with her! If she hates it then I will get it for myself lol

I also am getting a little bored of my games I play with non-gamers so I want to spice those up, I am eyeing #Cubitos for that!

I'm expecting to get #Cascadia fulfilled in the next couple of months, and I'm excited about that. It looks like a simple yet fun and thinky game

I'm also awaiting the #Western Legends: Blood Money expansion, and I'm pretty stoked about that! I think mainly I'm looking forward to playing that game again, but the expansion does look pretty cool, and it comes with a complete rulebook, which will be nice.

I also just backed #Fjords as well as #Everdell: Newleaf and Mistwood, but I don't expect those for quite a while.

The one game I'm probably going to buy in retail in the next few months is #Aquatica. I'm hoping it's a game my wife and I will enjoy together. It seems right up our alley.

Nice!  I haven't played #Western Legends in a while.

It's so much fun! The #Western Legends: Ante Up expansion is pretty cool as well. From the Blood Money expansion I think I'm actually most looking forward to the complete (and fixed) rulebook, haha

Accurate Rulebooks do help games play better don't they?

Premium User3 days ago

Funny how that works

I also backed cascadia it has a nice fun to time ratio! Looking forward to it.

I played Blood Money on TTS with my group a while back.   I really enjoy Western Legends and it adds a good amount of stuff to the game without being too much.  Quality expansion!

Oh awesome! I never tried it on TTS, but #Western Legends was such a hit with my group that I pretty much insta-backed Blood Money.

Someone else in my group owns the base game and has backed it so I don't have to. :)

The ideal scenario!

It is!  I end up having to check with them half the time before I buy anything!  (I did pickup #Blackout: Hong Kong even though one of them had it because it was on for $20 CDN.  Can't pass that up!)

#John Company looks quite interesting.  My wife didn't like #Brass: Birmingham... That being said, I love it.

The more I look into #John Company (Second Edition) the more I think I'm going to end up backing it.  Probably not the metal coins $30 is a bit steep for one set of coins (unfortunately).

I'm most looking forward to seeing #Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile arrive at our office! I really want to try out the solo mode and report back on it.

Other than that? I'm still hopeful that I'll get a copy of #Too Many Bones before the end of this year. I also haven't decided whether I should back #John Company (Second Edition) on Kickstarter or not (I think and backed it?)

When it comes to games I want to get to the table the most, it's #Brass: Birmingham and #Star Wars: Rebellion. I'm very very curious to see how my wife will react to those two games.

Edit: That's so sweet of your wife! Stroganov looked gorgeous :D

Brass is an amazing game.  Enjoy!

Star Wars Rebellion is also very cool.  Definitely double check and verify the rules around how the rebel base can be captured.  We had a game end incorrectly based on those rules which sucked.

Owner3 days ago

That must have felt bad especially since I imagine the game took 3+ hours to play? :(

I have zero doubt at the moment that my wife would enjoy it. It's just a matter of finding the time!

Supporter3 days ago

I can not wait for #Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile to get here.  I think they said late May for everything to be fulfilled in the US so I'm trying to find other things in the mean time (not a hard task).

Right now I did $1 but I do think I'm either going to up that before the campaign ends or definitely during Backer Kit.  I say if it looks good to you you should do it.  Even if it's only played once or twice a year.  It's going to be such a beautiful game.  I'm backing it knowing that I'll probably only bust it out a couple times a year and that is just fine by me.  Give in to the peer pressure...

Also, if you are around tonight I have one person on Discord interested in a late night #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) on TTS.

I really really enjoyed Brass and will look forward to playing it again in the future.  One thing I wouldn't mind being added to Brass is a small player power like #Clans of Caledonia has.

Owner3 days ago

Hmmmm yeah I think I'll copy you and back it at $1 for now too. As mentioned I saw that Ricky Royal put out a solo preview, so I'll be checking out that video soon.

Unfortunately I won't be joining in for gaming until my living situation is resolved (our family recently got a notice that the owner will be selling the place, so we're on a time crunch). That would be fun though so I'd definitely be down for a future session once things die down.

Player power in Brass? Hahaha that would be interesting to see. It's weird because they're two very different games but quite similar at the same time.

Supporter2 days ago

Ahh, man... I'm sorry to hear that and I hope it works out for you soon.

Also, I've started watching another Teach and Playthrough (not done yet) but just seeing the player interaction and negotiation in turn 1 I can tell it's going to be for me so I'm going to go in on it all the way... just not sure if I want to add some budget wiggle room by waiting until Backer Kit opens or if I'm going to go in during the time to Pledge.

And for Brass I'm thinking it would be very limited in player "power".  More like a tie to a family that is historic the way Clans does it.  I'm not saying it needs it I just think it could be interesting.  I bet there are some vairants out there like that if I did a little research.

Also I am really looking forward to you getting Too MAny Bones one of these days!

I am currently still in the research phase on John Company. I have watched all of the content that Cole put out and watched the playthrough they posted on the Kickstarter, PLUS just watched the Solo preview from Ricky Royal...I am still in the debating phase but I have pledged $1 so that I can gain access to the Pledge Manager so I have more time to decide!

Owner3 days ago

You've done so much more homework than I have and I'm guessing I'll end up in a similar spot as you in my feelings toward the game. Will be joining you and Scott in terms of going for a $1 pledge for now 😆

Lol I have been trying to decide for a while if I would actually like this lol. I watched the first edition playthrough on Heavy Cardboard too but that game is way different than this new version.

Supporter3 days ago

You and me both.  Although I'm at about 99% sure I'm going to get it.  There are a number of reasons, but I replied to Phil with a few of them.

There is also a bit of history to my choice.  When I first started to really pick up a lot of new games #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) first run had hit KS and I was in love what how it looked.  But I was also considering budget and decided to skip... I did this again with the second KS run of it because of budget and ultimately was able to get it because of a Giveaway win.  Now looking back I think I would be really dissapointed if it wasn't in my collection.

I totally get that with Pamir, the difference is I know for a fact I would like Pamir, with JOhn Company it is a little more up in the air. The strategy and negotiations are still so obscure to me that I cannot tell if I will enjoy it! Like you said in your other post though, I will love having such a beautiful game in my collection so I am definitely leaning towards going for it.

Supporter2 days ago

That's a good point.  I think the way John Company looks like it plays (tons of negotiation and politicking) fits wells with my play style and with my groups play style so I've decided I will back it.  Just haven't decided if I'll do that during the campaign or during Backer Kit.
