What game got you into the hobby?

I played a few modern board games in college and really didn't enjoy the idea of playing more. It wasn't until recently when played Dominion again that I fell deep into the hobby.

Up until that point, my whole tabletop time was devoted to Magic: the Gathering. Now I'm living in a whole new universe where nearly all of my friends will play some of the games in my collection rather than just the few who knew and enjoyed MTG.

It's great stuff.

i cant really say that it was a specific game but rather specific people who owned many games that allowed me to explore and finally really get into the hobby.

It was a mixture of Dominion/Catan...however my favorite game as a kid was Omega Virus. I still wish I had a copy of it today.

15-20 years ago I played Axis & Allies and Killer Bunnies with some friends and I had a good time, but it just wasn't my thing.

Fast forward to now, I've been married for 16 years, I've got 2 kids and I wanted to find a fun thing to do with them. My friend basically renounced video games and started his board game journey and that got me intrigued. I found a copy of Carcassone for $12 at Best Buy and picked it up. I found it relaxing but I had to think. I could also play it with my whole family, including my 6 year old and we all enjoyed it.

That was the one. Now I'm in deep but I'm trying to limit my collection.
