Pax Pamir (Second Edition) - heard/saw lots of great things about the game and tried it. As many have mentioned, the components are excellent. As far as gameplay, I can see what it's about and its potential, but just couldn't experience it because it took a bit of time to swallow, the game ended early due to the "Dominance Check" cards not being placed correctly in the deck (I think), and the rule book seemed a little more complicated than needed. Would like to give it another chance in the near future.

Welcome to Cole Wehrle designed games. Crunchy and complicated. I found out a week or so ago that the "board" is made by a company that specializes in placemats. It's a placemat for a dinner table, but it's also your play board. Pretty neat.

Just purely based on my first impression, I'd prefer playing Root any day haha. But yes, complicated. Started to make sense and was able to see what it could be, but game ended abruptly. I was very impressed though, that despite the complexity, it seems to be elegantly put together into a very compact form. The dinner placement makes complete sense with how it looks lol, it really is neat that they thought of that kind of approach.

Cool components, unique theme, definitely too complex for my game group.

Cool! I’m curious what about the rule book seemed more complicated than necessary?

After playing Architects of the West Kingdom, I was ready to sell my copy of Viticulture: Essential Edition. My wife wanted to give it another play to see for herself if we should sell it. We played. She one by one point and said she doesn't want to sell it. I still have my reservations about it, but I think the expansion might fix some of my concerns. We'll see.

A big one this week!

A nice short 6 player game of Twilight Imperium 4th Edition.  Only 12 hours!

It has some nice improvements over the 3rd edition and 12 hours is pretty good considering we played the long version of the game.  I didn't win but it was probably my best play of the game yet.

TI4 is my holy grail of gaming. One day I will play!

It’s well worth playing for the experience. There is only one winner but really the experience is worth it no matter how you do.

TI related posts never fail to surprise me lol. What is it about the game that takes that long?

Sure seems intimidating but I think I'd enjoy it a lot (though I doubt I'd be able to play it more often than once every 4 months or so haha)

Yeah.  We played the long version which I didn’t know going in to it. I too figure once a quarter at most works. But 12 hours is a bit much for me these days. I hope I can convince them to play the regular length game. That’s only maybe 8 hours or so. :)

As for why it’s so long, there are a lot of decisions to be made and you have to take your time with them.  There is a ton of table talk and every round has a lot of actions going on.  The longer the game goes the more actions people can do.  Some of the longest parts of the game was voting on agendas. Horse trading deals stuck, the whole bit

It’s epic!

One day I'll play this game. One day.

Definitely do it! Just once for the experience.

My group met on Thursday this last week and we finished our App campaign of Imperial Assault. We had a blast! Can’t wait to meet again - hopefully soon!

I'd really like to play the app campaign. Not a fan of the human run Empire, especially when I was that human.

The app is so much fun! It dynamically adapts to the situation you are in and spawns different bad guys for each situation.

There is also a player-made variant called RAIV that does the same thing as the app but with cards. This is good because you can then play the original campaigns that the app doesn’t cover.

That sounds cool, is it on BGG?
